Public Golf Course
A. W. Tillinghast designed one of the five Bethpage golf courses,
the Black Course, which is considered one of the top courses in the
country, especially after having been groomed to perfection for the
2002 U.S. Open. About an hour east of New York on Long Island.
Greens fees Saturday and Sunday US$20-$25 for 18 holes,
Monday-Friday US$17-$20. 99 Quaker Meeting House Road (take the Long
Island Rail Road to Farmingdale -- the course is a five-minute cab

Spook Rock Public
Golf Course
Designed by Frank Duane and Stephen Kaye, this is one of the top
public courses in the U.S. Only 45 minutes to an hour from the
George Washington Bridge. Greens fees US$45. 199 Spook Rock Rd.
